Join in Festival Fun for Chesterfield Appeal

A breast cancer survivor is urging people to attend next month’s Cutthorpe Festival to help raise £1000 for the Chesterfield Royal Macmillan Cancer Centre Appeal.
Barbara Stringer, 65, of Riggots Road, Cutthorpe, was diagnosed with the disease ten years ago.
She and other festival committee members are determined to do everything they can to ensure their target is met.
“We decided to raise money for Macmillan because everybody knows someone with cancer, therefore it is to everyone’s benefit that we help the charity make the new Chesterfield Centre as good as it possibly can be,” said Barbara.
Having had experience in both battling and beating the disease herself, and having seen many others trying to do the same, this appeal is very close to Barbara’s heart.
“My mother had cancer many years ago and several other members of the family have had various forms of it over the years. Also, a very good friend of mine died just last year from cancer of the oesophagus and his wife is currently in remission from leukaemia.”
“This new centre will make life so much easier for those receiving treatment. The journey I used to have to make to Sheffield for mine made an already stressful time even worse, so having the facilities all under one roof in Chesterfield will benefit so many people.”
Cutthorpe Festival starts on Friday 10 July with a well blessing service at 6.30 pm at the village institute followed by a night of live music.
The weekend will then see a whole host of family-friendly events taking place on the Cutthorpe Recreation Ground, including a tombola, cream teas, craft stalls. Scarecrow competition, children’s fair, classic cars & bikes, well dressing, children’s entertainment, Cutthorpe bake-off, dog show, 5K fun run, plus lots more!
Money raised at the festival will help build the new state-of-the-art Chesterfield Royal Macmillan Cancer Centre.
The new development will ensure that people with cancer in North and North-East Derbyshire will be able to receive vital treatment, care and support in one purpose-built facility.
However, as Macmillan need to raise £2.5 million to make the centre a reality, Barbara urged people to get involved and come to the Cutthorpe Festival and help raise as much money as possible.
She said: “If you wish to donate we’ll be doing bucket donations throughout the weekend, we really hope people will dig deep to help make the lives of those battling cancer and their families that little bit easier.”
Fundraising manager for Macmillan in Chesterfield and Sheffield Rob Turner said: “Macmillan relies almost entirely on donations from the public to fund its services and thanks to the support of people like Barbara we can be there for more people affected by cancer.”
