Project Paddington volunteers collecting teddy bears |
The day will focus on raising money and awareness for child refugees in countries like Syria and Iraq.
The project’s creators are urging schools to get involved and to encourage their students to bring in a donation of £1 along with the one item they would take with them if they had to flee from their home - a scenario most refugee children have faced.
This initiative is the second part of Project Paddington. The first part saw children from around the UK send over 25,000 teddy bears to refugee children with messages of welcome and support.
Sponsorship from the bears raised over £40,000 for Tearfund’s Refugee Crisis Fund and Samara’s Aid Appeal.
Joy French, one of Project Paddington’s founders and a mother of three said,” Will we enable our children to grow in kindness and generosity? Will we work to alleviate the suffering of children who have lost everything? In amongst work, school runs, packed lunches and the ironing we can make a difference when we work together”
